Challenges restoring the “freely sliding tendon capable of restoring good function” observed by Guy Pulvertaft some 85 years ago remain one of today’s ongoing struggles in hand surgery. The unique healing environment and complex biologic repair mechanisms of flexor tendon healing in the hand require careful coordination of surgical techniques and post-repair rehabilitation methods. This webinar will update the participant with advances in our understanding of optimal surgical and rehabilitation management for zone I and zone II flexor tendon injuries including: (1) pertinent anatomical, biological, and biomechanical influences on repair and rehabilitation strategies; (2) zone I injuries; (3) zone II injuries; (4) management of the fibro-osseous digital pulley system; and (5) an update on relevant biologics that may promote tendon healing and reduce peritendinous adhesion formation.
