This symposium will discuss emerging concepts of intraoperative nerve assessment, nerve end tissue preparation and biomaterials in peripheral nerve repair surgery. Dr. Puri will review the clinical use of Checkpoint Surgical’s Guardian and Gemini Bipolar nerve stimulators to support intraoperative decision making. Dr. Smetana will review nerve tissue preparation and how circumferential constrained nerve cutting may optimize nerve coaptation techniques. Dr. Freier will review the emergence of Chitosan, a polysaccharide hydrogel, and its potential benefits in nerve repair surgery.
